Transition, Reflection, and What’s Next
Great is the art of the beginning, but greater is the art of the ending — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
It’s been a couple of years since my last update, and as we approach the end of the year, I wanted to share some exciting news. This isn’t public yet, but if you’re reading this, I consider you a good friend, a trusted confidant, and/or someone who I deeply respect. I wanted to share this here first before making it more widely known.
After six incredible years, I’m stepping back from my operating role at Saltbox and transitioning into an advisory capacity in January.
When I co-founded Saltbox with Tyler and Paul, my role as the “versatilist co-founder” was to build, problem-solve, and prepare the business for the next stage of growth. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished:
Establishing Saltbox as the leading co-warehousing brand with a scalable playbook and a strong leadership team to carry it forward.
Incubating groundbreaking technology that will soon spin out as its own company—funded and led by an outstanding founding team.
These businesses are at a stage where they are set up to grow, scale, and evolve, and I’m grateful to have played a part in their journey.
In the spirit of true vulnerability, I don’t have a perfect plan for this transition, but this is how I am going to start. In January, I’ll take time to reflect, rest, and recharge after an intense but rewarding six years. I picked up Writing as a Way of Healing and will also dabble in some therapeutic art-making (oh, and maybe actually get back in the gym).
Starting in February, I’m embarking on a new chapter: a journey of learning and connecting. For six years, I’ve been deeply immersed in SMB e-commerce logistics and entrepreneurship. Now, I’m eager to step back and listen—learning about the challenges, opportunities, and ideas others are pursuing.
As part of this transition, I’ll also engage in fractional consulting, offering my expertise to businesses tackling complex problems while reflecting on where my skills and experiences can have the most impact, or generally just be helpful.
If you’d like to reconnect, share what you’re working on, or explore ways we might collaborate, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to reach out directly or if you’re like me and a calendar often rules your life, use this link to grab some time..
Thank you for being part of this journey with me—I’m honestly as anxious as I am excited for what’s next.
Congrats on this exciting next step! It’s amazing to see everything you’ve accomplished at Saltbox and how you’re approaching this new chapter with such intention. Wishing you all the best as you take time to recharge and explore what’s next—I know you’ll continue to do incredible things!
Congrats, Maxwell! And have a relaxing January! Excited to see what you get up to next!
